Buds Hockey League Under-9 will give young players the best on-floor experience, which leads to more skills, more floor time and more fun! Our league will help develop the finer points of hockey, and will benefit them in the long term.
Buds Hockey ball hockey league is designed to maximize the opportunity to get all players into the game.
As set out by Hockey Canada, Buds Hockey Under-9 league is for six (6) and eight (8) year olds.

Following the steps put in place by Hockey Canada and adapted for ball hockey, our Buds Hockey League is designed to maximize the opportunity to get all players into the game.
The core elements are:
Game Time breakdown:
Beginning with a 10-15 Minute warm-up / practice.
Game is approx. two 20 Minute (running time) periods.
Ending with a 5 minute cool down and coach’s pep talk.
Promotion of continuous play on shift changes [buzzer will go off every 1 to 2 minute(s) to identify shift change, time length pending on if we find the minimum time frame is too short],
No offside and icing,
Face-offs after goals to teach correct positioning,
No penalties are called.
All players okay all positions – forward (LW-ClRW)/defence (LD-RD)/goaltender.
First two weeks will be used as a development/evaluation period – no games, just practices. Teams will be selected at the completion of the practice period with teams announced the following day on our website.
Seven weeks of regular season hockey followed by the remaining three weeks being the playoffs.
All players will receive medals at the conclusion of the season/playoffs.
Stats won’t be recorded however scores will but only on the scoresheet.
Learning offside and icing will come in time, but the primary focus on age-appropriate training and programming needs to be on skill development in running, ball control, and passing, receiving and shooting.
Concepts like offside, icing, positional play and face-offs can be introduced at a later age when players move to the transition to U11 hockey.
All players should have an opportunity to play goal in full goalie equipment. Players should rotate through the position throughout the season.
The Hockey Canada Long-Term Player Development Model encourages a wide range of skill development at a young age, and focusing on a single position may limit the opportunity to practice skills in all areas.
Thanks to our wonderful friends at PBS Services Ltd. Trucks & Trailor Repairs we will have four sets of goalie gear for our league.
For sanitization purposes our friend Rian Mugford has graciously donated the Rocket Sport Dryer UV. With a combination of heat, UV light and vented air, ROCKET SPORT products are used to kill bacteria and keep equipment dry! Learn more at rocketsport.com
